Zell am See - A Premier Winter Resort
Location: An Alpine Corridor South of Salzburg
Nestled in the Zell Valley of the Kitzbühel Alps, Zell am See is a relaxation resort through and through, surrounding the crystal-clear waters of Lake Zell and surrounded in turn by stunning mountain peaks on all sides. Though small, the town has its own rail station and excellent road connections, making it readily accessible from major airports in cities like Salzburg, or Munich in neighboring Germany.
Culture: Celebrating Natural Beauty
The region currently known as Zell am See has been settled since Roman times, if not even earlier, and has seen the influences of Italic, Germanic, and Frankish cultures. Today, the town is best known as a leisure and sporting destination that takes advantage of the spectacular outdoor landscape, and features numerous events and festivals to that end. Visitors in summertime can enjoy the lights and lasers of the nighttime Magic Lake Show or the Earl of Pearl open-water swimming event, while Christmas brings charming markets and holiday cheer.
Activities: Thrills and Chills in the Gorgeous Austrian Alps
Zell am See may be famed as a ski resort, but there are plenty of other outdoor activities on tap. Mountainous peaks lend themselves quite well to hiking, cycling, sledding, and even paragliding, while down by Lake Zell visitors can swim or boat in waters so sparkling clean that they can be readily drank. Cap off your day of fun and action with some hearty traditional Austrian cuisine in the incredible downtown restaurants, and perhaps a stroll through the pedestrian zone to explore the charming boutiques.
