Harbin is the capital of the Heilongjiang province, and the northernmost major city in China. The city was chosen by Imperial Russia as a stop along the Chinese Eastern Railway, which attracted thousands migrants to the region throughout the 19th century. These days, the city's claim to fame is its Soviet-style architecture and the incredible Ice and Snow Festival held each year in January. A hotel in Harbin will please business travellers who fancy a cross-cultural sojourn in one of China's most fascinating cities.

Why should I visit Harbin on my business trip?

Harbin is well-connected by flights to Beijing, Japan, South Korea and Los Angeles. It is also a major port-of-call on the Trans-Manchurian Railway, with good connections to Siberia. Business travellers will love Harbin, an all-season destination which enjoys an idyllic location on the Songhua River. Harbin surprises first-timers with its Byzantine, Baroque and neoclassical façades. St. Sofia Orthodox Church (now a museum) and the Zhongyang Dajie cobblestone pedestrianised street, are quite reminiscent of Moscow! Business travellers can relax after work with the city's numerous saunas, bath houses and massage places. Beer and music follows with the summer Harbin International Beer Festival and Harbin Summer Music Festival.

Where do I find the business events?

Foreign investors will be impressed by Harbin's diverse local industries spanning textile, aircrafts, food, metallurgy, electronics, building materials, etc. The city hosts large-scale national trade fairs such as China Harbin International Economic and Trade Fair held annually in June, which features over 1,500 businesses and institutes. The International Seed Expo Harbin is another highlight which exhibits the latest from the agriculture industry. These are usually held at the International Conference and Exhibition Centre of Harbin.

What kinds of activities will a hotel in Harbin offer me?

Business travellers staying with a Harbin hotel during winter will have reason to cheer if they happen to be in town during the world famous Ice Festival. Post-work, take in the surreal nightly illuminations, ice lanterns and gigantic ice sculptures which dot the city. You can sneak in a visit during lunch breaks too, as specially-designated zones make it easier to navigate the city's installations. Due to its icy climate, skiing is another popular pastime in Harbin. If you need to pick up any souvenirs, the Chinese-Russian Market is the perfect place to explore.
