Chamonix is one of those unique places that appeals to every demographic. Popular with the jet set, you wouldn't be surprised to encounter an athletic celebrity or a royal skier on the slopes. Adrenaline junkies can try their hand at the famous Vallee Blanche, an off-piste ski run with the most breathtaking views you will ever see. Or test your stamina with a hike through the surrounding Alps. And for the really brave (and properly trained) there's always Mont Blanc. After a hard day on the hills, take advantage of the world class 'Apres Ski' scene at one of Chamonix's exclusive hotels and ski resorts. Or of course you could simply skip the energetic part and start your day with a decadent hot chocolate in front of the fire, before retreating to the nearest spa for some Rn'R, Alpine style.

Location: Chamonix - the height of European luxury

Chamonix literally looks down on the rest of Europe. It is one of the world's oldest and most famous ski resorts, and home to the famous Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest peak. Although situated in the French Alps, it is easily accessible from Italy and Switzerland as well.

Business: A higher class of tourism

Tourism has been the biggest industry in Chamonix since the nineteenth century. In 1924, the resort played host to the first ever Winter Olympics and since then, Chamonix has practically become a byword for high-class, high-altitude winter vacationing. The tourist trade varies from professional mountaineering companies, to luxury resorts and restaurants. Chamonix boasts some of the best hotels and winter sports facilities in the world, and the ski season attracts visitors from just about everywhere.

Culture: Where Alpine traditions are preserved

For centuries, the residents of Chamonix were cut off from the outside world due to the sheer height and extreme weather of the location. As a result, the old Alpine traditions were preserved until relatively recently. Learn about the history of area at the Musée Alpine Chamonix, or visit one of the local bars to sample the seasonal wines and spirits.

Activities: An Alpine Sports Enthusiast's Wonderland

If you're looking for an active break, you've come to the right place. Chamonix has some of the best ski slopes in the world, and the hiking is second to none. For something a little different, try your hand at some of the lesser known winter sports. The popular Chamonix Leisure Park features a range of activities for all ages, including sky diving, tobogganing and the exhilarating Chamonix Luge-Alpine Coaster.
