Best known for its culinary traditions, most notably as the home of mustard and as a centre for Burgundy wine, Dijon is now a location with great economic development and a city centre that is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Only 100 minutes from Paris by train, with connections to other regions in Western Europe, booking a hotel in Dijon gives you the ideal location to visit not only the rest of the continent, but also to discover the beautiful Burgundy countryside.

What can I expect from a visit to Dijon?

The capital of the Burgundy-Franche Comté region and a historic power during the Middle Ages, Dijon has a rich history that can be seen in its architecture and culture.

Thanks to its relatively compact city centre and its small windy streets, in part due to the city's medieval heritage, it is fairly easy to walk to most places. However, in 2012, Dijon introduced a tramway to assist visitors who need to travel further afield.

Which places of interest can I visit on business?

Every autumn, Dijon plays host to the International Gastronomic Fair at the city's Parc des expositions et des congrés. This event attracts around 200,000 visitors and is seen as one of France's leading exhibitions. At each staging of the fair, a guest country is invited to exhibit, with the German region of Rhineland-Palatinate having this honour for 2016.

A sign of Dijon's expansion will also be seen in the next few years with the opening of a number of business parks on the city's outskirts, most notably Ecople Valmy and Ecoparc Dijon Bourgogne.

What is there to do if I have booked a hotel in the centre of Dijon?

In many areas of the city centre, traffic is restricted, which ensures that you can enjoy this city in peace and quiet. One of the most spectacular sights to take in is the Palais des ducs de Bourgogne and the square which sits in front of it. Here you can enjoy a traditional Dijon cocktail, a Kir Royale, or sample some of the world-renowned wines from the region.

Alternatively, if you want to get around and discover the city, you can take the city's self-guided walking tour with directions given to you by images of the bird which is the icon of the city, the owl.
