The closest major city is Stuttgart, approximately 68 km away, but is also within reaching distance of Baden Airport to the west and Strasbourg International airport in France.
Culture: A night at the opera
The majority of daytime activities in Bad Wildbad are outside the city, but the bars and restaurants come alive at night with a host of local dishes serving traditional German recipes sourced from the locality. The trout is a firm favourite with the locals. Going to the opera is another favourite pastime of the cultured residents, and there are regular shows at the concert hall, but the peace de la resistance is the annual ‘Rossini in Wildbad Festival.’ Held every July, the event features the Belcanto Opera performing works from Rossini and his contemporaries.
Activities: Something to do, regardless of the weather
Bad Wildbad is historically a spa town, and the traditions of health and well-being are kept alive by several excellent thermal spas. When you have finished being pampered and have recharged your batteries, you will be eager to take to the hills. With over forty kilometres of walking trails, there is no shortage of scenery to explore. The winter months often receive snow, but the well-kept trails are usually passable, although the best time to visit is between April and October, unless your specific purpose is to engage with the locals in some cross-country skiing in the Sommerberg Mountain. Cyclists are not short of options either, and for the more daring adventurer, why not try your hand at paragliding.
