What is Bayreuth known for?

Bayreuth is home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Margravial Opera House, opened in 1748, and the Hermitage, a historical park with a palace and gardens. If you are travelling to this baroque town during summer, you can attend one of Bayreuth’s annual highlights, the Bayreuth Festival. Presenting performances of works by Richard Wagner, this world-class opera festival is considered a pilgrimage for Wagner enthusiasts. It takes places in the Bayreuter Festspielhaus, carefully designed by Wagner himself to stage large orchestral performances.

The closest airport is in Nuremburg, and within the town the local bus network makes it easy to get around. Buses run at approx. 20 minute intervals, with the option of day passes. For business travellers attending or arranging conferences, there is the impressive Stadthalle, as well as several smaller venues. You certainly won't be short of things to enjoy near your hotel. Bayreuth is known for its delicious wheat beers, considered by many to be the world's best variety of 'sipping beer'. Unwind in one of the town's many charming Gasthäuser, or guest houses, as you savour this local speciality. Restaurants such as Oskar, which offers typical German and Bavarian dishes, and Liebesbier, which is known for its wide selection of beers, are fine spots for entertaining clients or simply relaxing.
