Duisburg is a unique city that offers a beautiful display of city lights and bustling economy and education. With over 485,000 residents, the city holds the world's largest inland harbor. With the dense population, there is always something for everyone to do in town. The city's proximity to Dusseldorf International Airport makes it a destination for importance in the commerce and steel industries. Aside from the booming economy of the city, there are other sites to see, including historical buildings, yearly festivals, and one of the largest universities in Germany. As this is one of the larger cities in North-Rhine Westphalia, travelers will have plenty to occupy themselves with in this wondrous city.

Location: Bright Lights in a Big City

Located in the Western part of the Federal State of North-Rhine Westphalia, Duisburg has many city life attractions along with outdoor nature parks a bit further removed from the hustle and bustle. With a heavily urban district, popular roads of transportation are the A57, A59, A40, and A42. This city is also the hub of the rail network in North-Rhine Westphalia, offering different forms of public transportation.

Business: Booming Economy in Entertainment

This city knows how to show its visitors a great time with a variety of entertainment to partake in. Whether on business or leisure trips, guests of the city can take some time to learn about the past of the steel industry and what it has become in their economy today. After business meetings in this large city, travelers may stop by the König Brauerei brewing up its finest König Pilsner in house to serve to locals and tourists alike.

Culture: Love for the Arts and Preserving Natural History

Like many other large cities in Germany, Duisburg has much to offer in city life, but also prides itself on the natural history throughout its years. The city's love for art is clearly shown through the many historical museums, such as the German Inland Waterways and European Route of Industrial Heritage museums. The popular shopping street Brunnenmeile in town is known as the "Fountain Mile,” adjacent to the town's Municipal Theatre.

Activities: Revitalizing Experience in an Old Factory

Many old historical buildings have been transformed into museums, however, the extent to how these buildings have been repurposed for preservation of the natural history is quite impressive. Paying a visit to the Landschaftspark Nord is a great example of the creativity put in to restoring these buildings. Once an old factory, there is now underwater diving in a flooded former gas tank for visitors to explore. For those traveling into town for an extended stay, shopping along the Königstraße is sure to leave your hands full of bags with haute couture. A stroll to the local fresh fruit market is a great way to experience the entirety of what the city has to offer after visiting other large attractions.
