Eslohe – The Bliss of the Backwaters
Location: In the middle of Sauerland
Eslohe is located in the Hochsauerland district of North-Rhine Westphalia in western Germany. Just 25 kilometres south-west of Meschede, visitors have easy access thanks to the excellent network of road and rail connections. The nearest airport for visitors arriving by plane is Düsseldorf International, 76 kilometres away.
Culture: Fighting for the rights of Egyptian Women
Visitors should head for the Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul, believed to have been founded in the second half of the 9th century. Its fascinating history explains how Pope Alexander VI granted building plans for a larger church that would become the religious and cultural centre of the area. The great thing about the church activities is its focus on world issues as well as local problems. In 2014, the women’s committee decided to support the religious, political, and human rights of women in Egypt in a successful project.
Activities: Outdoor pursuits galore
Crossed by two rivers, Eslohe’s excellent location in the middle of the Homert Nature Park is a haven for outdoor activities. The Cobbenrobe resort is an extremely attractive and polymorphic recreation area, and with a brilliantly organised trail system, opens up to recreational athletes and nature lovers an unbelievable landscape of great views, fascinating castles and chapels, as well as inviting restaurants. During a visit to Stertschultenhof, a restored farmhouse from 1769, you will have a view of the "old time" lifestyle and industrial and crafts culture. But for a real taste, visit the old Backhaus bakery in Wenholthausen, where bread is baked the old way on a regular basis. All year round, you can experience Sauerland’s unspoiled landscape in full glory. You can really breathe the fresh air and cast a playful stare at the romantic colours flying around Wenholthausen district.
