Location: A convenient location with that small-town ambience
Herrsching is located on the eastern shore of Lake Ammersee, south-west of Munich in Upper Bavaria. The area is known as the “Five-Lakes-Country,” which also includes other popular bodies of water, name Lakes Starnberg, Pilsensee, Wörthsee, and Wesslinger See. It is positioned on one of the stops of the suburban rapid transit train network to Munich, which is about 45 km away. This easy access makes it a popular destination with visitors. The lakefront promenade at 5 km long is the longest in Germany.

Take a walk up the mountains through the Kien Valley to reach Andechs Monastery at the top, only 6 km from the small centre of Herrsching. This route forms part of the Bohemia-Bavaria-Tyrol St James's Way and is the oldest Pilgrimage in Bavaria. As well the church and monastery, delight in some traditional Bavarian beer, the brewery at the monastery is the monks' largest business enterprise.
