Krummhörn – A Collection of Picturesque Coastal Villages
Location: On the North Sea Coast, by the River Ems
Krummhörn is located near the estuary of the River Ems, towards the north-west corner of Lower Saxony. Lying about 10 km and 15 km from the larger towns of Emden and Norden, respectively, the municipality is easily accessible by road from anywhere in Germany–though you’ll likely enter the region through one of these two towns if you plan to arrive by rail or air.
Culture: A Seaside Tradition
Many of the small seaside townships in Krummhörn date back centuries, and settlement in the region spans thousands of years. As a result, visitors will find numerous villages with fishing and boating heritages, as well as delightful windmills, small castles, and dykes. These towns have a considerably increased population in the summer months, where vacationers arrive to enjoy the North Sea waters and experience boating, fishing, music, and art festivals.
Activities: Explore the Charming Villages
A holiday in Krummhörn is often laidback and quiet, but that doesn’t mean there’s little to do. Visitors can enjoy afternoons basking at the North Sea beaches, or day trips visiting the numerous museums, churches, lighthouses, and other gorgeous historic structures spread across the region’s nearby villages. If you desire a short excursion to a larger town for fine dining and entertainment, Norden and Emden are popular destinations within easy reach.
