Leimen - Making a racquet
Location: Leimen–By the banks of the Rhein
Leimen is one of a cluster of towns located in the fertile surroundings of the famous Rhein River. The town is situated just 28 km south of Mannheim, and 100 km north-west of Stuttgart, and it is connected to both cities by public transport and major roads. The French border is just 80 km away to the west.
Business: Industrial hub
Leimen is known as the industrial centre of the Rhein-Neckar district, and the town is home to a number of local and regional businesses, as well as a slew of entrepreneurs. The local community college attracts young people from across the area, while the vibrant social, cultural and tourism sectors keep the local unemployment rate down.
Culture: A festive town
Like many historic German towns, Leimen really comes into its own in the wintertime. The Christmas markets coincide with a series of festive events in the local area, including choral singing, Advent celebrations, and Christmas concerts. For year-round cultural events, pop into the City Museum, which is situated in the old cigar factory–a large and distinctive building in the centre of the town.
Activities: Practice your serve
Unsurprisingly, Leimen has some excellent local tennis facilities, including a court complex named after Boris Becker. There is no better place to practice your serve than in the hometown of one of the world’s greatest tennis players. If you prefer to get up close with nature, the surrounding countryside of Leimen is perfect for gentle hiking and wildlife spotting.
