Ludwigsburg - A Baroque city with modern business
Location: Connected to Germany and the world
The city is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg in south-west Germany, only 12 kilometres north of Stuttgart. From Ludwigsburg, Stuttgart can be reached in 12 minutes via train, and services run several times every hour. From there, Stuttgart International Airport with links to 96 cities across Europe and North Africa is easily accessible.
Business: Flourishing business from engineering to film
A prosperous centre for business, the commerce in Ludwigsburg is supported by five main industries: mechanical engineering, automotive, film and media, software development, and finance. Several hotels close to the centre offer a range of good quality meeting and event facilities to support the interaction between these companies and interested visitors.
Culture: Grandeur, Versailles-inspired palace, and pretty gardens
The city has earned a place on the global map thanks to the impressive Residenzschloss ‘Residential Palace’, with 452 rooms spread across 28 buildings and sprawling yet perfectly kept gardens. This Versailles-inspired building was constructed under Duke Eberhard Ludwig who laid the foundation stone in 1704. Today, the palace still hosts state and cultural events in its theatre and assembly room. It opens its doors to visitors from around the world daily. Also of interest is the Monrepos Lakeside Palace, the Duke’s former hunting lodge, with artful gardens and interesting aviaries with colourful birds from across the world.
Activities: From vibrant performing arts to quiet museums
Ludwigsburg has become known as a city of art, film, and festivals thanks to diversity of cultural activities on offer throughout the year. As well as being home to a number of interesting museums and galleries, the city continues the Baroque tradition of hosting regular festivals and parties, such as the Palace Extravaganza each July and the Market Square Festival in June. At Christmas, the city’s Baroque market square is filled with over 170 Christmas booths, and its two churches are illuminated with festive lights.
