Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Feel the romantic and enchanting allure
Location: Southern Germany in the heart of Bavaria
Rothenburg is located in the Franconia region of Bavaria in southern Germany. It is one of the stops on the “Romantic Road”, a scenic route in southern Germany that includes a number of “quintessential" German villages and picturesque towns and castles. Rothenburg’s closest major city is Munich. It can be reached via train, the A7 motorway or by flying into Nuremburg Airport – 90 kilometres away.
Business: Tourism hospitality and service
As a town of just over 10,000 inhabitants, Rothenburg’s main business is tourism and hospitality. There are several convention centres that cater to business professionals and a business park located near the local airfield. The main centres for conferences and conventions are the Reichsstadthalle and the Wildbad centres.
Culture: Feel the quintessential German culture!
If there is one thing that Rothenburg has plenty of, it’s culture. The town was the inspiration for the cartoon Pinocchio, and has been described as “the most German of German towns”. The area is rich with delicious local cuisine and has a strong wine culture, which it exhibits every August in the Rothenburg Wine Festival. Also, there is no shortage of parks, museums, theatres, and romantic squares to enchant your inner spirit.
Activities: You’ll have trouble fitting it all in!
From golf to fishing, cycling to hiking, Rothenburg has plenty in store for activities to keep you entertained. Located within the Frankenhöhe nature reserve, this is a lovely place to enjoy the German countryside and admire the beautiful Tauber Valley. While in the town, explore the small city centre, trace the old city walls, shop at one of the outdoor markets, or indulge in the local cuisine! Numerous museums, amongst them the Medieval Crime Museum and the German Christmas Museum should be on the top of your list.
