Schlangenbad – Nothing less than you deserve
Location: Sheltered on a valley slope
Schlangenbad is located in the Rheingau-Taunus district of Hesse. The town stands at an elevation of 320 metres above sea level, and is 12 kilometres from Wiesbaden. It is best served by Frankfurt am Main Airport, less than an hour’s drive from the town.
Business: Harnessing nature’s healing powers
Using nature’s hydrotherapeutic resources in a scientific and responsible manner is the main contribution to the communities’ economy, especially since spa treatments are becoming a fashion.
Culture: Garden house architecture
A romantic jewel from the past, the steam tram Eltville-Schlangenbad, started on July 1, 1895, initially as Eltville light railway, while on March 25, 1899, she was converted into a tram. At a very small distance from the town, Wiesbaden will give you the opportunity to visit a few points of interest, perhaps the most popular being the Kurpark. Designed in 1852 in the style of an English landscape garden, the park's foliage includes magnolias, rhododendrons, azaleas, and swamp cypresses. An impressive six-metre tall fountain features on an island in the pond, where visitors can hire boats. Visitors can also see columns of the original Kurhaus, which was taken down to make space for the new building completed in 1907. In the summer of 2005, the Dalai Lama blessed more than 10,000 visitors who came here to greet him.
Activities: Hiking trails in the forests
It goes without saying that with such splendid conditions, hiking is a much pleasurable activity. There is a network of fine trails, including the Rheinsteig from Biebrich Palace near Wiesbaden to Bonn by way of the Loreley, the castle tour of the Liebenstein and Sterrenberg "the enemy brothers" castles, and past Lahneck Castle. A route to Rauenthal with an exceptional view over the Rhine Gorge is about 45 minutes away.
