The city combines a long history with beautiful natural surroundings, including forests and beaches. Its history can be traced back many centuries to the Middle Ages, and it was officially founded in 1234. Since that time, it has always had a ferry service to the island. Throughout the centuries, it served as an important trading hub for the Hanseatic League. Although it is now part of Germany, it was once part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Today, almost 58,000 people live in the city. Stralsund is often known as the gateway to the Island of Rügen, because it has the only fixed link to the island from the mainland.

Location: Stunning Stralsund City Near the Baltic Sea

Located along the southern coast of Stralsund, which is a strait of the Baltic Sea that separates the mainland from the island of Rügen, this German city is part of Western Pomerania region in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is connected to the island by two bridges and ferries. To get there, visitors can take a train or road, and there are buses that run around town.

The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and features many brick gothic architectural buildings, including the Gothic Town Hall from the 13th century and St. Nicholas' Church.
