Although Templin in the north-eastern climes of Germany is a fairly small town, it still attracts its fair share of visitors and has plenty to offer all-comers. The surrounding natural scenery gives you the chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and explore the area on foot or bicycle. It’s a wonderful location for watching wildlife, finding peace and quiet in the middle of nowhere, and to relax or enjoy an endless pursuit of outdoor activities and water sports! But that’s not all, Templin has a fascinating blend of history and culture, which keeps visitors coming back to this little town in the Uckermark District. The public park and botanical gardens provide more scenic escapes, and if you are in search of rejuvenating treatment, hunt down one of the city’s luxury spa and wellness centres for some well-deserved pampering.

Location: Not far from Berlin

Templin is located in the West Uckermark district, 80 kilometres north-east of Berlin. With a good connection of roads and railways, this popular holiday destination is easily reached from the capital within the hour by train or an hour and half by road. There is also a regular bus service.

Culture: Inspired by a rich history

Visitors to Templin have a healthy choice of local museums and historical sites in which to immerse yourself in local culture and history. Mary Magdalene Church and the town hall built in the mid-18th Century speak of the town’s past, and show how the residents encountered fires and survived the plague. Look out for the historic landmarks of the three towers, which mark the city’s medieval gates, Berliner Tor, Mühlen Tor, and Prenzlauer Tor–which not only stand out as historical features but for architectural brilliance.

Activities: Relax at the Spa or Explore a Glacial Lake Area

The area around Templin is home to around 180 beautiful glacial lakes, which together with a network of canals provide pretty scenery and a host of water sports and activities. The largest lake is Lübbesee, where visitors can partake in sailing, boating, canoeing, and windsurfing together with fishing. Alternatively, head for the nearby forests to explore one of the many nature trails. Also, visit the Old Town, which provides a charming backdrop of medieval architecture blended with modern retail shops and restaurants. A large outdoor market takes place once a week in the town square, and other lively activities transpire through the week, depending on the season. For visitors seeking pure relaxation, a natural spa was recently built in the town, and patrons can avail a number of services and treatments, including massages, facials, and manicures.
