Traben-Trarbach - A romantic retreat
Location: Traben-Trarbach–the gem of Mosel
The Mosel region is situated in the west of Germany, near the border with Luxembourg. Traben-Trarbach sits right in the middle of this famous wine-growing region, along the banks of the River Mosel. It is approximately 140 km south of Bonn, and 140 km west of Frankfurt, while Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is just 20 km to the east.
Business: Fruit of the vines
Traben-Trarbach is famous for winemaking and its local wineries include famous brands such as Richard Bocking, Robert Heuser, and Ulrich Langguth. In recent years, it has become increasingly popular with tourists, who come to visit the historical town centre and to tour the Mosel vineyards as part of the Traben-Trarbach Riesling Route.
Culture: Ruins and icons
The city of Traben-Trarbach has a rich and varied cultural heritage. Visit Museum Row to see an incredible array of religious icons (The House of Icons), an expansive collection of 18th and 19th century art and furniture (The Middle Mosul Museum) and the impressive 14th century City Tower, with its iconic carillon.
Activities: Journey underground
When you aren’t sampling the local wine, see how it used to be stored with a tour through the underground tunnels and cellars of Traben-Trarbach. The countryside is full of great hiking trails and nature walks, while the views are particularly good from the old Mont Royal Fortress Ruins.
