Wesel – A Great Base for Outdoor Adventures
Location: Capital of the Wesel district
Located in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of in north-west Germany, the charming city of Wesel is the capital of the Wesel district, and is in easy reaching distance of several major cities, including Dusseldorf and Dortmund. The closest international airport however in Weeze, approximately 50 kilometres by road. A regular train service also runs from all major cities in the surrounding area.
Culture: Church acoustics
The main cultural centre in Wesel is actually the late gothic basilica of Willibrordi Cathedral. A marvel of jaw-dropping architecture, the acoustics makes the perfect setting for organ recitals, concerts, and other organised groups related to the church. The basilica’s cultural rival, the Ginderich Parish Church of the Assumption is also worth a visit for its early medieval charm and historical reference. Built in the 11th century, the Ginderich is the oldest pilgrimage site in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Activities: Out and about
Wesel is a nature’s playground, and with an abundance of walking trails and recreational activities in the surrounding hills together with the Lippe and Rhine Rivers, there is plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.
