Athens is not only the capital of Greece, but it is also the largest city. Known as one of the world's oldest cities, its history spans thousands of years and it shows as the center of Attica, the country's main historical region. The current population is near 670,000, and these residents get to enjoy daily sites like the Parthenon and the Acropolis of Athens. The city has even provided a peaceful way to enjoy such sites away from the busting of the city, having built a scenic route through many of Athens’s most famous landmarks. One of the most interesting things about the city is that there is little uniformity in architecture. All styles go from Greco-Roman to modern side by side.

Avid hikers have plenty of spots to choose from within the city of Athens since it is surrounded by four mountains as well as several hills. One of the most famous of these is Mount Lycabettus because from the top one can see the entire Attica Basin. There are also three historical rivers within the city. Athens is also home to the Athens Metro, an electric railway, and another commuter railway, allowing residents to get to almost anywhere without using a car.

There is never a lack of interesting sites in Athens. Its many museums, schools, and research facilities solidify it as an archeological hub. Hundreds of scholars can be found roaming the city at any given time. The city is also the proud home of nearly 150 theatrical stages.
