As soon as you approach Santorini by plane or by ferry, you'll understand why so many people are enamoured with this Greek island. Believed to be the site of the lost city of Atlantis, steep cliffs rise out of the Mediterranean Sea to form a dramatic semi-circular shape. This is the caldera, where a volcanic eruption once wiped out the entire Minoan civilisation. It's the jewel of the island, and you'll be at the heart of it all in your Santorini hotel.

What can I do in Santorini during my free time?

A hotel in Santorini has something for everyone. Oia is a glamorous picture-postcard town, where sunsets dazzle even the most seasoned traveller. Galleries and boutiques line the streets, including the quirky Atlantis Books, which is not to be missed. Fira is the main town, where narrow alleyways lead you to all kinds of restaurants and bars. Service across the island is excellent, whilst the unique wineries are well worth exploring. For traditional food in a Greek taverna, try Tsipouradiko, whilst Palia Kameni is the place to be for a sunset cocktail. On the opposite side of the island are the beach towns of Perissa and Kamari. The black sand beaches here are remnants of the powerful volcano, but nowadays make for a great place to unwind after a day's work.

What makes Santorini a great business destination?

Santorini is a popular travel hub, being well connected to Athens and the mainland. Ferries and flights arrive here daily, whilst bus services across the island are dependable and frequent. The tourism sector is the engine behind Santorini's economy, whilst its wine industry is flourishing. Many of the hotels in Santorini offer modern and comfortable events spaces, which are adaptable to different group sizes.

What highlights are near my hotel in Santorini?

If you want to learn more about the Minoans and the volcano that wiped them out, head to Akrotiri -- the Pompeii of Greece. Touring these archaeological ruins gives an insight into how the ancient Greeks lived. The fascinating ruins of Ancient Thera near Perissa are also worth visiting. But to get a real feel for Santorini, simply spend time wandering around Fira or Oia. The whitewashed adobe buildings clustered along the cliff side are what make this island so unique, and you may wind up finding it hard to leave.
