Tourism plays a significant role in the city's economy due to the Taj Mahal. However, agriculture remains an essential industry, with about 40 percent of the population engaged in it. Culture: Visit the Beautiful and Ancient Agra Fort
There is little doubt about the draw of the Taj Mahal, one of the most famous attractions in the world, and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This monument to Mumtax Mahal, the wife of Mughal kind Shah Jahan, took 22 years to build. Another historical site is the Agra Fort, built in 1565 by Mughal emperor Akbar. A tablet at the gate says it was built prior to 1000 and only renovated by Akbar. The beautiful but fort-like exterior holds a paradise within.

The gardens in this city, especially the Soami Bagh, Ram Bagh, and Methab Bagh, provide beautiful places in which to stroll and relax.
