There are many historical sights in the city of Kilkenny, as well as plenty of bars and restaurants including the famous Michelin-starred Campagne Restaurant Kilkenny. Ireland's capital city and major business centre, Dublin, is conveniently near to Kilkenny. By car Dublin can be reached in about 90 minutes, while travelling by train or bus will take about two hours.

Which businesses can I find on a visit to Kilkenny?

One of the best known producers of dairy products in the world, Glanbia, is based in Kilkenny. The head offices of this large company are located just outside the city. Much of the local industry is based around food and agricultural produce because of the many farms located in the region. Beer brewing is also an important part of the local industry. The Smithwicks brewery is worth a visit to learn about the local beers and to perhaps sample a few.

Which attractions can I visit near my hotel in Kilkenny?

Kilkenny city is quite small, and you can walk through the entire centre in about an hour. There are many historical attractions located in and near the centre, for example, Kilkenny Castle which is found on the banks of the river Nore. The castle and surrounding gardens are excellent for exploring and provide an interesting insight into the history of the area. There is also a cathedral and a round tower, both of which date back to the 13th century. Both are open for visitors, and you can climb to the top of the tower for a superb view overlooking the city and the surrounding landscape.
