Before 1962, Arzachena was a small town focused on agriculture and farming, then in March of that year, an international consortium of entrepreneurs bought the land along the coast that skirts the town. They named it the Costa Smeralda (The Emerald Coast), and set about building exclusive villas and luxury hotels. The region became a choice holiday location for those in the public eye, and many society magazines ran features on the exclusivity of the area. The town expanded due to this investment and attention, and has been applauded for its use of local building materials and practices to keep a traditional feel to the area and help protect the natural beauty of the town and the surrounding districts.

Location: Midway between Costa Smeralda and Porto Rafael

On Sardinia's north coast lies the pretty little town of Arzachena, just 28 kilometres north of the International Airport at Olbia. The area is known for its wonderful clear blue seas and perfect sandy beaches with some of the best hotels and accommodation on the whole of Sardinia. The town stands near the junction of the SP125, SS125, SS427, and SP14 to allow easy access to the whole of the island by car or public transportation. The capital, Cagliari, can be reached with a 3-hour drive to the south.

Business: Business and leisure combined

The town and the surrounding area has many conference hotels from which to choose as a base for your business event. With facilities ranging from rooms for 10 guests up to conference halls that can accommodate over 200, Arzachena is a stunning location with excellent facilities. With easy access to the airport and the rest of the island, it offers an ideal base for your business.

Culture: Marvel at the Tomb of the Giants

5,000 years of history can be found in the Arzachena Archaeological Park with monuments from the Neolithic age to the Bronze Age, on display in the middle of the rugged and beautiful Sardinian countryside. The Giants Tombs (Coddu Vecchiu) are the collective burial sites of the Nuragic civilisation, and show amazing pieces of funeral architecture in remarkably preserved conditions and are unique to the island.

Activities: A paradise for sports fans

With many sporting events taking place throughout the year, sports fans will not be disappointed in Arzachena. Sailors delight in the excitement of the Rolex Farr 40 World Championship each summer, which is closely followed by the Perini Navi Cup. On land, Arzachena is the location for the Polo Gold Cup, and attracts some of the finest horses and jockeys from all over the world. Towards the end of summer, the country lanes and hillsides are alive with the clicking of cameras and the roar of the rally cars that are taking part in the Rally d'Italia e Sardegna in a high-octane mix of adrenaline and speed.
