Garda is one of many resort destinations along Lake Garda. A popular tourist destination—and rightly so—its mountains and glistening waters can be seen on Italian vacation brochures. It has a long history that dates back centuries, when Venetian merchants and farmers used the land for vegetation. Go back even further than that, and find legends about the Burgundians who left rock etchings in the hills surrounding the town. Visitors and residents alike can still look up to the backdrop of the once crucial fortress that made the city an important part of northern Italy in the first place. Nowadays, Garda is a dream come true that guarantees a holiday that you will never forget. Activities, culture, cuisine, and authentic lifestyles go hand in hand, enchanting visitors from near and far.

Location: Formed from Glaciers and Kissed by the Sun

This resort town is located at the southern tip of Lake Garda that draws so many to this city in northern Italy. It is believed that this beautiful getaway was formed from glaciers during the Ice Age. Its central location puts it halfway in between Venice and Milan as well as Brescia and Verona.

Business: Over 2 Million Guests a Year

The Lake Garda region has been a popular place to holiday since the 1950s, and now draws in millions of people each year. It has become a holiday favorite of Bavarians, which make up half of the visitors to the resort town. Local markets offer unique items to tourists, such as pottery and wood carvings, making it an even more interesting place to visit. However, the agricultural opportunities should not be ignored. The local fruit, olives, and wine are known all over Europe.

Culture: Summer Festivals and Historical Sights

Garda is very proud of its long history and it shows in the many festivals it holds annually surrounding its celebrated culture as a fishing town. It is known for its olives and wines grown in vineyards as well. Visitors can see historical buildings still standing in the city, including the Villa Guarienti di Brenzone and the Palazzo dei Capitano.

Activities: Swim, Relax, and Unwind

For good reason, Garda is at the center of northern Italian tourism. Lake Garda provides never-ending activities, such as swimming, fishing, and sailing. Historical shops allow merchants to sell unique souvenirs, and resorts, spas, and hotels help those who come to getaway relax. When visitors are ready to venture out, they can join the locals in one of the many cafés in town.
