Gargnano is located on the shores of Lago di Garda, one of the most well-known and scenic areas in Italy. This tiny, charming town is home to only 2,957 residents, but plays host to numerous tourists who come here for the outstanding scenery and tranquillity. The town, over a millennium old, is located between a pristine lake and towering mountains, and provides a wealth of outdoor activities, including sailing, swimming in the calm lake waters, or exploring the numerous trails in the hills.

Location: On the Shore of Lago di Garda

Gargnano is located on the western shore of Lago di Garda in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. If you are arriving by plane, chances are that you will fly into Verona-Villafranca, 15 kilometres away, or Brescia-Montichiari, 30 kilometres away. Visitors arriving by road will enjoy the stunning views and an excellent network of roads.

Culture: Dine like royalty

The main village of Gargnano is well-known for its grandiose luxury villas as well as historic palaces with majestic gardens that exhibit the past wealth of the area. And this lakeside setting is still rich in culture and architecture, and many of the local villas have been converted into hotels in order to accommodate visitors to the area. As a result, tourists can enjoy living in traditional Italian accommodations and immersing themselves in the culture during their stay. Since no visit to the Italian countryside would be complete without sampling classic Italian cuisine, a visit to one of the area’s many restaurants, such as Ristorante Sostaga and La Tortuga, is an absolute must, especially if you have a cultured palette. Italians are renowned for their mouthwatering recipes, and the chefs of Lake Garda do not disappoint. Most of the villas and restaurants boast scenic views of the lake or the mountains.

Activities: Enjoy the lake

Gargnano is best known for the annual “Centomiglia”, a hundred-miles-regatta of sailing boats that attracts sailing enthusiasts from all over Italy and the world every year. The regatta takes place every September in the Bogliaco area. Beach lovers may want to head to Spiaggia del Corno to enjoy a swim in the lake under the Mediterranean sun. More active travellers can rent boats to explore Lago di Garda by water. Hiking and cycling trails are prevalent in the surrounding areas, and the hills provide stunning views, overlooking the lake. In the mountains a little further afield, mountain climbers will find their escape.
