When you stay at a hotel in Putrajaya, you'll be at the heart of the business and federal administration of Malaysia. It was announced as the seat of government - replacing Kuala Lumpur - at the end of the 1990s, because it offered much more room and more manageable traffic. Today it's known as the "Intelligent Garden City", because it was carefully designed with lush amounts of green space to balance out the corporate buildings in the area. It takes its name from Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra - the first-ever Prime Minister of Malaysia.

What are the highlights of Putrajaya?

Putrajaya has many beautiful spaces to explore, with a number of open spaces available to the public. Take a wander through the famous Botanical Gardens, which are the biggest in Malaysia. Here you might see a few bats hiding amongst the colourful flower displays, spread over an impressive 92 hectares. You can also visit Putrajaya Lake, which is a hub for recreational activities such as canoeing and powerboating as well as fishing. For more urban explorers, Putra Square is the main attraction - as the site of many of the city's celebrations and festivals.

What can I expect from a business trip in Putrajaya?

Putrajaya is the seat of the King and the seat of the government - making it the country's official federal administration centre. It's also part of the special economic zone MSC Malaysia. All but three of the government's many ministries are now located here, which makes it a central hub for a wide variety of industries. The KLIA transit link and two major federal highways make it an easily commutable area, and it's only a short trip away from the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur - a city with a thriving economy and business world.

What can I do after work when staying at a hotel in Putrajaya?

There's plenty of post-work entertainment available in away from your Putrajaya hotel. For example, Putra Square, which sits opposite the Prime Minister's Office, comprises two plazas and is divided into 11 segments - representing the 11 states of Malaysia. Here you'll find the Promenade Shopping Mall, which has a variety of shops available as well as restaurant options. You can also visit the beautiful Putra Mosque, or take a sight-seeing trip along the ornate Putra Bridge.
