With more than 12 million inhabitants, Moscow is a world epicentre for economic, political, and cultural activity. Rich in history, the city dates back to the 12th century. Throughout its long past, Moscow has served as home to some of the world’s most well-known leaders, scientists, artists and politicians. The former capital of the Soviet Union and the largest city in Russia, this major metropolis contains several breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as, the Mercury City Tower, now the tallest structure in Europe. Moscow can be found on the Moskva River in Western Russia along with Russia’s second largest city, St. Petersburg. With more than 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, Moscow is considered one of the greenest cities in all of Europe. It’s ‘Ring Roads’, which circle the city centre at various distances, make driving in Moscow simple. And its metro system, the 4th largest in the world, makes getting to all parts of the city easy. Moscow is also home to four international airports, nine railway stations, multiple trams, and a monorail.

Business: Economic hub of Russia

Hosting more billionaires than any other city in the world, Moscow boasts one of the Europe’s largest economies. The Moscow International Business Centre, or Moscow-City as it has been dubbed, is located on the Third Ring and is the soon-to-be centre of all business and economic activity in Moscow. It is also the location of the Mercury City Tower, Europe’s tallest structure. Moscow is home to the country’s largest banks and companies. Some of its main industries include energy, chemicals, food, textiles, and metallurgy amongst others.

Culture: World renowned architecture, museums, music and dance.

Russian culture is rich and Moscow is where it all comes together. The art enthusiast will have no lack of museums to see and priceless pieces to gaze at. From Tretyakov Gallery to Pushkin Museum, there is certainly no shortage of artworks from around the world to capture your eye. Be sure to spend some time in Red Square, see the Kremlin, catch a ballet performance, and climb to the top of Ostankino Tower for a breathtaking view of the city.

As one of the world’s largest cities, Moscow is absolutely filled with things to do. It’s not what to do, it’s how to do it all! To feel the old city, be sure to take a walk down Old Arbat Street where you’ll discover souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants, and street performers. Or head over to the beautiful Gorkiy Park, Moscow’s version of Central Park in New York City. If you need a bit of relaxation after a long day, experience one of the traditional bathhouses, a must-do while in Moscow!
