The city of Barcelona is home to the second richest football club in the world and offers a variety of sightseeing destinations. It is home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Park Güell, Casa Mila, Casa Vicens, and Palau de la Música Catalana. The city has won a medal for its architecture, hosting the Sagrada Família, the world-famous masterpiece by Gaudí. The cultural offer spans museums, among them the science museum CosmoCaixa, the European Museum of the Year 2006. The city has seven beaches, including the Barceloneta, one of the best bathing beaches in the world. Various leisure areas, a pleasant climate, and monuments of historical significance make the metropolis one of the most popular cities in Spain and Europe.

Location: A Pearl on the Coast of the Mediterranean Sea

Barcelona is located on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, right by the Mediterranean Sea. It has the Llobregat River to the southwest and the Besòs River to the north, and is separated from the Vallès plain by the Serra de Collserola mountain range. The metro area is served by the Barcelona-El Prat Airport. This city is also the major center for RENFE, the Spanish state railway network.

Business: Southern European City of the Future

Home to the main stock exchange in the northeastern part of the peninsula, Barcelona is known for its award winning industrial design. It serves as the second largest trade fair and exhibition center in all of Europe, and is an important automobile manufacturing center. Industries such as textiles, electronic, logistics, publishing, telecommunications, and IT are the main employers in the region. And with Barcelona being the tenth most visited city in the world, tourism is another principal industry.

Culture: World-class city with a musical tradition

Besides a number of theaters and concert halls, Barcelona is home to the world famous Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house, the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, and the Palau de la Música Catalana concert hall. Barcelona and Catalonia National Symphonic Orchestra is the largest orchestra in Catalonia; it performs about 75 concerts per season. The city also has two music festivals, the Sónar and the Primavera Sound.

Activities: Architecture, beaches, and fun for everyone!

Barcelona has something for everyone: Kids can watch sharks and stroke dolphins at L’Aquarium. For those who enjoy thrills, there are roller coasters waiting at the Parc d’atraccions del Tibidabo. Those who love views and peace, the historical museum Poble Espanyol is a must see! Water sports enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with beaches, a seemingly endless coastline, and state-of-the-art sports centers.
