Just over 50 years ago, this entire area was lonely dunes and coastline with a few villagers. Soon though, people realized that the several kilometers of beaches were worth visiting, and that meant a demand for places to stay. It led to the growth of a world-renowned resort town catering to those looking for relaxing fun in the sun. The very first hotel, called Hotel Eureka, was built in 1933. In this development of the area, local councils have made sure to designate green zones to protect the untouched nature in the area with a piece of this land being just south of the city limits. The best thing about vacationing or living in this beach town of 6,000 inhabitants is that there is something to do for everyone, whether you love the outdoors, sports, or nightlife.

Location: On the Spanish Island of Mallorca

Cala Millor can be found on the Spanish Balearic Island of Mallorca. This popular tourist destination is actually the largest development on the east coast of the island, and is only an hour away by car from the capital, Palma de Mallorca. The island’s main airport on the east side of the capital city is about 70 kilometers west of this beautiful beach resort. It is also pretty close to two other resort towns, Sa Coma and Cala Bona. The beach within the city limits is almost 2 kilometers long.

Culture: Fiestas, Beaches, and Markets

There is always something going on in Cala Millor. In January, you can enjoy the Fiesta of Sant Antoni Abat, the patron saint of animals. The first day begins with lighting bonfires and singing traditional songs while eating local blood sausages. The second day consists of quite a colorful parade. For Easter, you can enjoy three days of parades, celebrations, and even a performance at the church. The beaches are where everyone wants to be, with perfect sand and blue waters as well as a promenade for walking and cycling. There are parasols available for rent, and if you get hungry or thirsty, bars and restaurants can be found along the coastline. Lastly, if shopping is your favorite pastime, check out the local market every Friday morning.

Activities: Golf, Adrenaline, and Nightlife

There are over 20 golf courses in and around this area, providing relaxing leisure for sportsmen and a new activity to try for the whole family. Many of the courses are situated in beautiful scenery with the beach or even pine covered mountains as their backdrop. The locals are sure to be friendly when you stick around. If you're looking for more excitement, you can try your hand at water sports. Scuba diving, water skiing, and jet skiing are all popular on the island. There is also a horse stable where you can pay to take a ride during the summer months. When the sun goes down, head to one of the many bars within walking distance of the beach. One of the most popular is The Sportsman's Bar, a locally owned bar offering karaoke, live music, and even trivia nights.
