The tourist capital of the region, Chiclana de la Frontera is famed for its relaxed pace of life, fresh air, and the many excellent golf courses that can be found in the immediate vicinity. The town’s origins date back to Palaeolithic times, when the first settlers began to build a permanent village. Over the years, it served as a base for the Phoenicians, Romans, and Carthaginians who appreciated the location for its ease of access to the Atlantic coastline and the Mediterranean Sea. Now associated with the European Golf Academy, it attracts many visitors wishing to improve their handicap in the warm climate and beautiful scenery of the region whilst also enjoying some of the finest wines produced in Spain.

Location: In the protected area of the Bay of Cádiz

The historic city of Cádiz lies just 20 kilometres to the north along the Atlantic coastline of southern Spain. The nearest airport for the international traveller, Jerez de la Frontera, is 50 kilometres north and slightly inland. The town sits on the six kilometre long white sands of the Playa de la Barrosa beach, but also has El Puerco and Novo Sancti Petri beaches within its town limits.

Business: Golf anyone?

With conference facilities in many hotels and golf courses, there is no reason why you should leave your clubs at home when planning your business trip. In fact, most hotels are located within a short golf buggy ride to the first tee, meaning that it will be easy to continue your business negotiations whilst putting on the course.

Culture: Colourful festivals and beautiful architecture

The heartbeat of the town comes from the religious festivals that take place throughout the year. Carnaval at the beginning of Lent is a wonderful time of public parades and street performances, where everyone gets involved in the festivities. In August, the traditional flamenco is represented at the Festival of Parpuja, which takes place in the squares and old buildings of the town. These magnificent mansions, churches, and palaces, some of them dating back to the 13th century, are well worth visiting even outside the festival times with stunning artworks, museum pieces, and grand facades that will keep many visitors enthralled for hours.

Activities: Golf, golf, and more golf

With a wonderful climate on the Atlantic coast and spectacular scenery inland, the golf courses of the region are a draw to many visitors who come here just for this reason. There is a wide range of championship courses that includes the wonderful 36-hole Novo Sancti Petri course, which was designed by Severiano Ballesteros. The European Golf Academy Novo Sancti Petri is also based in the area, and offers expert advice on every aspect of your game.
