Known as Southern Spain’s answer to St. Tropez, Marbella has attracted the well-heeled with its coastal charms for many years now. With its sea and mountain vistas, ports lined with yachts, a downtown with the hippest bars and restaurants, and a shopping district lined with European designer brands, Marbella has everything you could possibly ask for.

Location: An Andalusian Paradise by the Mediterranean Sea

One of the most important tourist cities in Costa del Sol, this city in southern Spain is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the Sierra Blanca on the other. The town is highly influenced by its Moorish history. But the beauty of Marbella is not limited to the azure waters and the mountains. The landscape is littered with maritime pines, cherry trees, and orange trees. So much so that the air is scented with them.

Business: A Service-Oriented City

That Marbella ranks as the numero uno in best development of general welfare and quality of life in Andalusia is no surprise. With its wealthy clientele and the droves of tourists every year, the city’s economy is very stable. It also has the highest number of private school and clinics in the region. The main industry here is service: hospitality, real estate, and business services.

Culture: Ready to Have the Time of Your Life?

With no less than 24 beaches across its coast, one can never run out of things to see and do in Marbella. La Plaza de los Naranjos (Orange Tree Square) should definitely be on the list. Situated in the city’s Old Town, the quaint square lined with orange trees is very much alive with bars, bistros, art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. In the middle of the square, you will also find a Moorish style fountain built in 1604. Another must-see is Málaga, the oldest operating harbor in Spain. If you want to take a scenic walk in the city, stroll along Paseo Marítimo and Avenida del Mar, promenades that follow the coast and lead you right up to the water. Lastly, don’t forget to visit Puerto Banús, the favorite yacht-lined port of celebrities and other high-profile people. Even if you don’t get to experience a celebrity sighting, you’ll at least get to see Salvador Dalí’s sculpture of a green rhinoceros.

Activities: Of Festivals and Food

Marbella has several yearly events, namely the Marbella International Opera Festival in August, the Reggae Festival in July, and the Film Festival in June. But even if you don’t plan your trip around those events, make sure you pencil in this one great activity: the sampling of the city’s cuisine. What better way to get to know a city than through its food? And with Marbella’s fresh seafood, anchovies, gazpacho, garlic soup, paella, and serrano ham, you will experience a gastronomic friendship with this city that you will never forget!
