Gran Canaria is home the beautiful village and municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The island is located about 150 kilometers from the northwest coast of Africa. The first settlers arrived around 500 BCE, and it has been a part of Spain since the 15th Century. The village was first settled in the 16th century, when a small hermitage was built, dedicated to San Bartolomé. Around 2.2 million people visit Gran Canaria every year, with most of them coming to the south of the island where the municipality and village lies to enjoy the warm weather, beachside resorts, and water sports including water skiing and sailing.

Location: Largest Municipality of Gran Canaria

The village is located in the province of Las Palmas on the southeastern area of Gran Canaria, one of the islands that form the Canary Islands. It is part of the largest municipality of the islands, which has the same name. The village is located in the mountains about 17 kilometers from the coast. Nearby is the Gran Canaria Airport, and visitors can get around by the GC-1 motorway. It is 54 kilometers from the capital city, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Business: Luxurious Resorts, Conference Centers, and Tourism

The main industry on the island is tourism, so the village is home to numerous hotels, spa and wellness centers, commercial centers, and golf courses. There is also a 14,000 square meter multifunctional congress and convention center, making it a perfect place to host large-scale conferences and meetings combined with relaxation and adventure.

Culture: Art, History and Religion Combine

Tunte, the oldest quarter of the village, offers visitors a look at the old history of the island, including the beautiful Church of San Bartolome de Tirajuana, which was first consecrated in 1922. The architecture is beautiful, and features a basilica floor plan with an altarpiece made by the master artist Lino Feo Ramos. The town is also home to Punta Mujeres, an archeological site of the architecture of the ancient indigenous Canarios.

Activities: Beach Resorts and Singular Natural Reserves

The resort town is home to several large beach resorts, including Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas, San Agustin, and Sonnenland. Visitors enjoy activities on the many beaches, including swimming, diving, and snorkeling. The nearby mountains offer visitors beautiful nature walks and hikes.
