Sant Antoni de Portmany – A Fishing Village Turned Cosmopolitan Resort
Location: A summer escapade in the Mediterranean
The resort, best known as San Antonio, is situated on Sant Antoni Bay along the west coast of the island of Ibiza. Due the its notorious nightlife, Ibiza has one of the busiest airports, and flights are available from all over Europe - especially during the summer months. Sant Antonio is also a great sailboat destination, thanks to its ultra-modern marina.
Culture: Windmills, fortified buildings, and folklore
Sant Antonio’s most prominent cultural site is the church, an ancient fortress with thick walls. The island’s inhabitants dedicated the new church to Saint Anthony and chose the port as the place to build the original chapel where it still stands. Visitors should take the opportunity to see the mills that have been restored to their romantic original state – much to visitor’s delight!
Activities: Party by night, sail by day
Time Out Magazine described Ibiza as "arguably the clubbing capital of the universe.” From May to October, when the island’s tourist season is at its peak, the Carrer de Santa Agnès, the main partying street in San Antonio’s West End, hosts a variety of bars ranging from the different music genres including dance, house, rock, and indie. Trying to attract customers, bar staff line the strip, offering special deals on alcohol to tourists setting off on their nocturnal exploration. More quiet tapas bars offer a peaceful alternative for conversation over a glass of local wine. In the daytime, visitors will find a number of eclectic choices and meet a completely different side of the island’s beauty. At the harbor of San Antonio, you have great connections to the beaches Cala Bassa and Cala Compte, Pinet Playa and Es Puet, and Cala Grasió and Port es Torrent. In Ibiza, there is always something to do: festivals, leisure activities, exhibitions, and parties!
