As a Mediterranean destination it should be no surprise that Monastir is home to a stunning coastline, filled with endless white sand beaches. Tunisia’s premium beach resort is a well-known tourist destination, popular amongst European holiday-goers during the hot summer months. Sunbathing and water activities are certainly the highlight for most visitors who come here to enjoy scuba diving, parasailing and snorkelling but this city also has some great cultural attractions that should be seen. The Bourguiba Mausoleum, Colosseo, and The Forte El Ribat should all be included on your plans. And make sure you spend some time wandering around the Medina with its small shops, charming restaurants and cafes.

Location: Tunisia’s east coast

Monastir can be found on the east coast of Tunisia, on the Mediterranean Sea. It is easily reached by plane via the Habib Bourguiba International Airport. Taxis are the best and most common way to arrive in the city centre from the airport. If traveling within Tunisia, there are regular trains with services to neighbouring cities.

Business: A tourist resort economy

Most of the local economy is supported by the tourism industry. There are many large and luxurious resorts in the area, particularly in the suburb of Skanes, where many tourists book their stays. One of the city’s largest companies here is the Tunisian airline, Nouvelair, which operates its head office in Monastir.

Culture: A long history dating back to the Phoenicians!

Monastir is a city with a very rich and long history. As a once home to the Phoenicians, this seaside city has seen many visitors in its many years. During your stay, be sure to visit the Bourguiba Mausoleum and El Ribat, both of which are fantastic attractions. There is also the Colosseo, which is one of the largest built by the Roman Empire.

Activities: Sunbathing and water sports!

Most visitors come to Monastir to enjoy the pristine white sand beaches that line the shores as far as the eye can see. Sunbathing seems to be the number one activity here but those looking for something more adventurous will certainly have no trouble finding it. Scuba diving, snorkelling, and parasailing are all popular activities to take part in during your stay.
